One of the best things about makeup is how creative you can be with it. Each season on the high fashion runways around the world, we are presented with fresh new looks from our favourite makeup brands, giving us all inspiration to update our own routines. But when it comes time to wear these looks in real life, they can often feel intimidating. How do you take an intricate look seen at a fashion week and make it work for a night out with friends? Never fear – here are some tips for taking a high fashion runway look and recreating it with everyday makeup products.
Prep Your Skin and Start with a blank canvas
Before you begin to apply any makeup, always make sure your skin is prepped. Start by washing your face to remove any dirt or oil, then use a toner followed by moisturising. If you want to take your skincare routine one step further you can add in a face mask, then an eye cream, too. This will ensure your skin is smooth and hydrated, ready for when you apply your makeup. Now you are ready to start.
Groom Your Brows
A perfect starting point for any makeup look is your brows. Runway looks often featured bold and defined brows, so take a brow pomade, gel, or powder and fill in your brows. Make sure to use light, feathery strokes, and brush the product through afterwards to soften the look. Brush an eyebrow gel over the top to keep them in place.
Prime Your Eyes
After you have primed your eyelids with an eye shadow primer, you can begin creating the look itself. Using an eyeshadow palette that complements your eye colour, apply the lightest shade from your lash line to your brow bone. Then apply a darker shade in the crease, and blend out with a fluffy brush. For that runway worthy finish, take a shimmery shade and apply it to the centre of the eyelid. Finish with a coat of mascara.
Bronze and Blush
When it comes to bronzing, go for a shade that is one or two shades darker than your own skin tone and apply to the forehead, cheeks, nose and chin. A blush can add the perfect pop of colour to the cheeks – choose a bright shade for an intense look, or go for a muted pink for a more subdued finish. Use a fan brush to apply it – dabbing it on the apples of your cheeks, and blending it up towards your temples.
Lip Color
Many runway looks feature bold lip colors, and if you want to recreate this at home, the key is to make sure your lips are exfoliated and moisturised first. You can then use a lip liner to define your lip shape, and fill in with a lipstick or lip gloss. Add some highlighter to the cupid’s bow and blend out – this will help to make your lips look full and luscious.
Add Finishing Touches
Finally, add some finishing touches to your look. An illuminating spray will add a dewy finish, and false lashes can add some drama. Don’t be afraid to play around with glitter or shimmer – apply some to the eyelid crease and cheekbones for an extra sparkle. A tiny touch of colour to the inner corner of the eyes is also a great way to add drama. There you have it – a fresh runway makeup look to wear in real life.
